HIPAA security training is the law: Free resources can help you comply

Dentist employers have a new, free option for providing their staff and security team with part of the federally required training on the HIPAA Security Rule.

Knowledge on Demand, released last month by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, was designed specifically for the health care sector and includes five trainings to improve cybersecurity awareness.

CDA members have additional resources to assist with HIPAA compliance:

  • Complete CDA’s latest Practice Health Check to test your office’s compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • View over a dozen HIPAA resources, including an overview of privacy and security officers’ responsibilities.
  • Access streamlined HIPAA compliance with Abyde software solution, a CDA Endorsed Service.

    Remembering Frank A. Brucia, DDS

    orange-rectangle-5px-pad-top

CDA has learned of the passing on May 12 of Frank A. Brucia, DDS. At age 106, Dr. Brucia was CDA’s oldest member and is the oldest graduate of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry according to news shared with the school’s community this week.

Dr. Brucia was a “leader in organized dentistry with a great deal of pride in his dental school and his dental career,” wrote Dean and Vice President Dr. Nader Nadershahi. The Brucia Loyalty Society was named for his generosity and, in 2000, Brucia received the alumni association’s Medallion of Distinction for his service to the school, community and profession.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on May 30 at Green Street Mortuary in San Francisco.

Learn more about Brucia in a 2017 profile in the school’s alumni magazine.
